PROFILE OF MYANMAR BIRD AND NATURE SOCIETY (MBNS)
Myanmar Bird and Nature Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protection, research and education of bird and nature for future generations. It was formed on January 1, 2000 and officially registered with serial number 1867. 573 members are teamed on the date September, 2009. The society is enthusiastically carrying on the conservation processes of bird and nature.
OBJECTIVES
• To support the conservation aims of Myanmar.
• To support the conservation of birds and their habitats.
• To make the development of interesting in bird and to love the birds and nature among the young generation in Myanmar.
• To cooperate with the society of bird and nature in the field of international.
• To educate the conservation of bird and nature. To find out and make recent research work in Myanmar’s birds.
• To make closer relationship between the bird and nature lovers.
• To maintain the Myanmar heritage and to make improvement of Myanmar development from the side of young generation.
• To make improvement of birds watching and Eco-tourism business.
EXPERIENCES FOR BIRD AND NATURE CONSERVATION
Presentation Program
• MBNS co-operated with Zoology Department of the Yangon University and talk about “Knowledgeable Tips of Avifauna” on 30th July 2000.
• MBNS invited to Mr.Anthony Sebastin, Director of Natural Resource Management, Aonyx Environmental, Malaysia and talk about “Using Barn Owls as a Biological Control Agent to Control Rat Damage in Rice Fields’’ at Plant Protecting Division, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation on 21st November 2001.
• MBNS invited to Dr.Daniel H. Henning (former Professor Emeritus, Montana State University), USA and talk about “New Environmental Education “at People’s Park, Yangon on 27th December 2003.
• MBNS’s secretary U Thet Zaw Naing talk about Adventure Bird Watching at Grand Plaza Parkroyal hotel, Yangon, on 17 August 2005.
• MBNS invited to Mr. Joost van der Ven, Nethrelands and talk about “Observation Bird at Indawgyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary from 2000 to 2005”, Yuzana hotel, Yangon on 9th October 2005.
• MBNS’s secretary U Thet Zaw Naing talk about Myanmar Bird at Institute of Forestry, Yeizin, Pyinmana on 17th September 2009.
Exhibition Program
• MBNS participated with Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division for “First Myanmar Bird Show” at Tawwin Hall, Forest Department from 22nd to 31st March 2002.
• MBNS held bird show booth about “Correlation between Birds and Environment” by using computer technology at opening ceremony of the University of Maubin on 18th July 2003.
• MBNS held bird show booth about “Bird and Nature Conservation” at Myanmar Floriculturist Association’s 10 Anniversary at People’s Park from 21st to 25th December, 2003.
• MBNS held bird show booth about “ Bird and Nature Conservation’’ at School Family Days ( Education Fairs ) of the Ministry of Education at Diamond Jubli Hall, University of Yangon from 27th December 2003 to 3rd January 2004.
• MBNS held bird show booth about “ Bird and Nature Conservation’’ at School Family Days ( Education Fairs ) of the Ministry of Education at Diamond Jubli Hall, University of Yangon from 28th December 2004 to 3rd January 2005.
• MBNS carried out exhibition on World Wetland Day in Yangon on 2nd February 2004.
• Showing exhibition at Diplomatic School in Yangon on 28th March 2005.
• MBNS carried out exhibition on World Wetland Day in Yangon on 2nd February 2007.
• MBNS held Bird Photo Show in Yangon on 23rd November 2010.
• MBNS carried out exhibition on World Wetland Day in Yangon on 6th February 2011.
Educational Program
MBNS conducted educational program in schools by the cooperation of teachers and staff under the Ministry of Education together with the staff under the Ministry of Forestry and staff of other Ministry. Since the beginning of the fall term 2002 MBNS have been carried out the educational program in 971 schools all over the country.
Avifauna Survey Program
MBNS involved in Asian Waterbird Census of Wetlands International as a national coordinator since 2001. MBNS have done avifauna surveys in many states and divisions of Myanmar.
Bird Watching Program
Since October, 2004 MBNS held bird watching activities on the last Sunday of the Month to sites in Myanmar as part of Society’s public education activities.
Training Course
First bird watching training course was opened at Hlawga Wildlife Park from 17th to 18th July 2004.
Second bird watching training course was opened at Hlawga Wildlife Park from 4th to 6th December 2004.
Third bird watching training course was opened at Hlawga Wildlife Park from 12nd to 14th February 2005.
Fouth bird watching training course was opened at Hlawga Wildlife Park from 25th to 27th November 2005.
Fifth bird watching training course was opened at Mandalay from 1st to 3rd April 2006.
Sixth bird watching training course was opened at Hlawga Wildlife Park from 4th to 6th March 2011.
Tree Plantation Program
First Tree Plantation was carried out at Hlawga Wildlife Park, Yangon on 26th July 2009.
Second Tree Plantation was carried out at Hlawga Wildlife Park, Yangon on 17th and 26th July 2010.
Educational Handouts Publication
Bird, Turtle, Butterfly, Flower, Wetland, Reef & Coral, Minsontaung Wildlife Sanctuary and Indawgyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary flyers are already published.
